what we believe

We believe everyone should have a safe place to sleep every night.
We believe everyone should have healthy and affordable food.
We believe everyone should have a Fun Thing to do that brings joy.
We believe that there’s a lot more to believe.

We believe that Heaven is a Revolution that can happen right here on Earth. We shouldn’t have to wait till the hereafter to be treated like human beings.

about candace

Candace (she/they) is a sister, educator and preacher. She went to Trinity College and Union Theological Seminary. Candace will likely never make enough money to pay back all those loans. Yikes.

When they were still in high school, Deacon Zelma Faulk pushed Ms. Candace to be the substitute teacher one Saturday at the Concord Children’s Ministry. She’s been teaching and designing lesson plans since then. She served as site coordinator for the Concord Freedom School for several years, a literacy-based social justice education program for children in Bedford-Stuyvesant. It is their joy to design immersive participatory experiences where people can “be responsible for their own learning.” She is one of the associate ministers at Concord Baptist Church of Christ in Brooklyn, New York.

Most recently, Minister Simpson served on a team of Faith and Justice Educators at a faith-based non-profit. She now is a PhD student in Christian Education and Congregational Studies. She’s most interested in the possibilities (and limits) of Christian Education infrastructure (bible studies, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School) as a form of political education.

Candace enjoys the work and ministries of Octavia Butler, Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers. One day, people will have sense and cast her as The Lion in The Wiz. She also spends way too much money on ice cream.
